The Importance of Being Alone

Being alone and spending time with yourself is much more important than people realize. When I tell people that I love going out alone and taking myself on these little "dates", they always give me weird looks. I get it, who wants to be alone, but it's during those times that I get to spend my time focusing on me and get to take a moment to listen to my own soul. Don't get me wrong, I love spending time with the people I love and going out to meet new people. It is another aspect in my life that brings me so much happiness, but that part of my life wouldn't be the same without the balance of my time alone.

Being alone is one of those things that gets a negative representation in society today. It is important to realize that being alone does not directly correlate to being in a state of loneliness. I believe it does quite the opposite. By having that time alone, even if it is just for a few minutes, it allows me to recharge and spend some time with my thoughts. Spending time alone with our thoughts is a scary thing and intimidates many, including myself, but by taking out the time to dive into your thoughts and emotions you are able to learn more about yourself in more ways than one. One thing that I've noticed in myself is that by spending time alone and giving myself time to understand who I am, I have been able to build my self confidence and have let go of so many negative thoughts that I had regarding myself.

Spending time alone and in solitude is hard and scary, but it is worth so much. A affirmation that I will always live by and hope that you all are able to incorporate into your life in some way is the following: I may be alone, but I am never lonely. I hope that you give yourself some time alone, even if it is just ten minutes, to listen to your soul and appreciate who you are.
